Overview
UNESCO seeks to promote the identification, protection and preservation of cultural and natural heritage throughout the world that are of great value to humanity.
These sites give the status of World Heritage, which recognizes the need to protect and preserve this heritage for future generations. The situation symbolizes the collective ownership and responsibility of this heritage, and, in addition, UNESCO provides ongoing support to the Department of Antiquities in the form of capacity-building and training in the management and protection of heritage sites.
There are six Jordanian sites included in the World Heritage List, namely Petra, Qusayr Amra, M. Umm al-Rasas, Wadi Rum, al-Magtas, and As-Salt have been signed and there are 16 other sites on the preliminary list.
UNESCO Amman works closely with the Department of Antiquities and several NGOs In order to ensure sustainable protection and effective management of World Heritage sites, it also provides support for the preparation of nomination files.
World Heritage Sites and More:
Day 1: Arrival Amman.
– Arrival at Queen Alia international Airport. Meet and assist by our representative before immigration counter. Transfer to the hotel in Amman
Day 2: Amman – Desert Castles – Umm Al Jimal – Amman:
– After breakfast you will meet your guide to start your day with a visit to the Desert castles, beautiful example of both early Islamic art and architecture. Before driving back to the hotel you will have the opportunity to visit a UNESCO world heritage site (Um Al jimmal)
Day 3: Amman – Salt – Bethany – Dead Sea
– Today you will visit the UNESCO World Heritage Committee added Salt City “the place of tolerance and urban hospitality” to its World Heritage List to become the sixth Jordanian landmark to be declared a world heritage site and that will be the place you will visit after your breakfast then continue to visit the Baptism Site, where Jesus of Nazareth was baptized by ST. John the Baptist. On this day you have an overnight at the hotel in the Dead Sea knows as the lowest point on Earth.
Day 4: Dead sea – Nebo – Madaba Lunch at Madaba – Umm Al Rassas – Petra
– Thousands of years of biblical history reveal themselves today on a visit to Mt. Nebo where you will see what Moses saw when he looked out over the Promised Land. Continue to Madaba for a visit to St. George Greek Orthodox Church where the ruins of the oldest known map of the Holy Land, painstakingly assembled from more than two million pieces of colored stone, covering the church floor. Enjoy your lunch then drive to the ancient Nabataean city of Petra, carved out of sandstone cliffs around the 2nd , 3rd century BC.
Day 5: Petra visit Lunch in site – Petra
– Travel to the magnificent red rose city dating back to the 1st century BC. Today you will see what the ancient master builders carved into the sandstone cliffs: palaces, temples, tombs and more. You will have lunch at local restaurant in Petra then back to your hotel for overnight.
Day 6: Petra – Wadi Rum – Amman
– After the breakfast you will drive to Wadi Rum to explore the landscape of the desert by 4*4 vehicles with an option of a camel ride which makes your visit unforgettable. Dinner and Overnight at Wadi Rum camp.
Day 7 : Amman – Amman City Tour – Jerash (Lunch at Jerash) – Amman
Golden age city came under Roman rule, during which time it was known as Gerasa, and the site is now generally acknowledged to be one of the best-preserved Roman provincial towns in the world.
Day 8: Departure.
– Transfer to Queen Alia International Airport for departure
